Woman attacked, robbed in Downtown Jersey City

Robbers hit a Downtown Jersey City woman in the head with a pipe and threatened to shoot her when they mugged her last night as she checked her mailbox in front of her Mercer Street home, cops told The Jersey Journal today.
The 54-year-old woman, whose home is near the intersection of Varick Street, was checking her mail at 6:15 p.m. when two robbers came up from behind her and hit her with the pipe, reports said.
When she began screaming, one of her attackers said, "Shut up or I will shoot you," reports said.
The thugs took her purse -- containing various credit cards -- a cell phone, and a plastic bag she was carrying with two shirts, reports said, adding the total value they got away with was about $375.
An ambulance was called but the victim refused medical attention, reports said.
