Two Jersey City men charged with burglarizing clothing store

by Rebecca Markley/The Jersey Journal
Sunday December 28, 2008, 3:59 PM

Two Jersey City men were charged with burglary for robbing a clothing store on Monticello Avenue this morning, cops said.

Police responded to a call of burglary in progress at Respect For Life Clothing Store on Monticello Avenue, around 6 a.m. today, they said. Upon arriving at the scene, cops said they saw three men outside the store who fit the description of the burglars, including Donnell Murdaugh of Montgomery Street, and apprehended them.

Officers entered the store through the smashed in glass door and noticed bags of merchandise from the store placed near the door, reports said. Once inside, they found Marvin Jones in the store, who told police "I didn't want to do this. Those three put me up to it," police said.

Murdaugh, 19, was charged with burglary and criminal mischief and Jones, 18, of Gardner Avenue, was charged with burglary and theft, while two other suspects were released, reports said.

The store owner was called to identify the merchandise and all the items were returned, cops said.
